Mae West: Herman the German

Born in Frankfurt-am-Main, Hessen, Germany, Herman Bing [30 March 1889 — 9 January 1947] was a versatile character actor who portrayed the gullible German tourist Fritz Krausmeyer who buys the Brooklyn Bridge from Peaches O'Day — — played by MAE WEST — — in "Every Day's a Holiday" [Paramount Pictures].
• • In the month of January this film debuted: 14 January 1938.
• • Unfortunately, it was the first Mae West film that failed to make money.
• • Herman Bing, a bit parts player who was active mainly in 1930s and 1940s Hollywood, was not unknown to burlesque his own Deutsch accent.
• • In the month of January — — on 9 January 1947 — — depressed at not being hired for film work, Herman Bing committed suicide in Los Angeles, California. He was 57 years old.
