• • Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Lew Kelly [24 August 1879 — 10 June 1944] portrayed Joe, the animal keeper, in "I'm No Angel" [filmed in 1933] when he was 54 years old. The versatile character actor appeared in more than 200 films between 1928 and 1944. Lew Kelly died in Los Angeles, California at the age of 65.
• • And speaking of "I'm No Angel," band vocalist Hattie McDaniel [1892 — 1952] portrayed Tira's maid. Known on the night club circuit as "The Colored Sophie Tucker," the 5-foot-two singer was born in Wichita, Kansas in the month of June — — on 10 June 1892.
