Character actor Stuart Holmes played the part of Dirk in the MAE WEST film "Belle of the Nineties" [1934].
• • Originally titled "It Ain't No Sin," various aspects of the movie came under the scrutiny of Hollywood's Hays Office.
• • Born in Chicago as Joseph Liebchen in March - - on 10 March 1884 - - the versatile six-footer appeared frequently in films playing minor roles from 1909 until 1964.
• • Holmes died in Hollywood of a stomach ailment on 29 December 1971.
