Mae West: Rejected by NBC

The Winnipeg Evening Tribune was letting their Canadian readers know more about the MAE WEST radio scandal.  This is Part 2 of their coverage in Manitoba, Canada.
• • Mae never completely rehearsed the Adam-and-Eve skit • •
• • The Winnipeg Evening Tribune editors wrote: Miss West, say the broadcasters, never completely rehearsed the Adam-and-Eve skit and did the love scene with Charlie. She did not appear at a preliminary rehearsal called for last Friday.
• • The script, as it stood then, had been rejected by NBC officials in Hollywood. It was taken to Miss West's apartment for revision. There was much wrangling between the actress and broadcasters, but the latter won or thought they won.
• • In rehearsal, Mae read the lines flatly and innocuously • •  . . .

• • At Hammerstein's Victoria the stagebill was always crowded. In December 1912, the singing comedienne Mae West opened right after intermission, a difficult spot on the Program because the audience was still taking seats, waving to friends as they strolled down the aisle, and not paying attention to the act onstage. Variety noted, in their issue dated for Friday, 13 December 1912 that Mae West was at a disadvantage that evening and "some of her very good material went for naught."
