Mae West: Alan Alda

For a publication called The Star, Richard Ouzounian interviewed Alan Alda, who launched his career by working with MAE WEST when he was still a teenager.
• • Born in NYC on 28 January 1936, Alan Alda was asked about his first job in entertainment.
• • Alan Alda replied: "I was an apprentice in summer stock for $25 a week. Built the scenery, set it up, painted it, cleaned out the toilets, and then went on stage to play one of the leads. Near Mauk Chunk, Penn. I acted with Mae West, watched Buster Keaton and I used to stand behind the scenery and listen to Victor Jory and Alexis Smith do Private Lives."
