Mae West: Psychic Matters

It was Sunday, 25 January 1948 when MAE WEST opened the United Kingdom tour of "Diamond Lil" at the Prince of Wales Theatre on London’s West End. She’d heard of the British medium Leslie Flint [1911 – 16 April 1994] and took this opportunity to meet him. This is Part 2.
• • The Flint Séance • •
• • Soon we were discussing psychic matters • •
• • From “The Spirit Book” comes this: Anti-climactic it may be but we went on talking and soon we were discussing psychic matters … she had spent years reading widely in the fields of psychic research and comparative religion before finding her own truth in Spiritualism and then through meditation and self-discipline developing psychic power of her own.”
• • From “The Spirit Book” comes this: A variety of spirits spoke to Mae West during the Flint séance, including her mother Matilda, who had died in 1930.
• • Mae tested the spirit with mention of a particular pet • • . . .
• • To be continued on the next post.

• • On Friday, 15 March 1940 in the USA • •
• • The Western-style comedy "My Little Chickadee" went into general release on Friday, 15 March 1940 in the United States.
• • Overheard in Hollywood • •
• • The soundtrack to the motion picture "Belle of the Nineties" was recorded at Hollywood Paramount Studios in L.A. Mae West is doing the vocals.
• • In Her Own Words • •
• • Mae West said: "I have an extra thyroid gland.  It gives me twice the energy and twice, the, you know, everything else I guess."
• • Quote, Unquote • •
• • A Chicago daily mentioned Mae West.
• • A Midwest newspaper reporter discussed Mae West.
• • Illinois reporter Claudia Cassidy wrote an article “On the Aisle: Mae West as a Connoisseur, Pronounced Sewer, of Amour” for the Chicago Tribune.
• • “Acidy” Cassidy's piece (with a rather nasty title) was printed on page 13. . . .

• • The Mae West Blog celebrates its 14th anniversary • •
• • Thank you for reading, sending questions, and posting comments during these past fourteen years. Not long ago, we entertained 3,497 visitors. And we reached a milestone recently when we completed 4,100 blog posts. Wow!
• • By the Numbers • •
• • The Mae West Blog was started fourteen years ago in July 2004. You are reading the 4170th blog post. Unlike many blogs, which draw upon reprinted content from a newspaper or a magazine and/ or summaries, links, or photos, the mainstay of this blog is its fresh material focused on the life and career of Mae West, herself an American original.
