Mae West: Backstage Battles

MAE WEST was 64 years old when two muscle-bound gladiators got into a brawl in her dressing room.  What lady would mind that?  Let's spy together.
• • "Mr. Universe Charges He Was Belted by Mae West Beau" • •
• • Journalist Dick West, based in Washington, DC, reported for United Press.  Dick West wrote: Muscular Mickey Hargitay, the 1956 “Mr. Universe,” charged Thursday that he was knocked out by Mae West’s boy friend Wednesday night in a brawl in her night club dressing room. Hargitay, a member of Mae’s muscle man “chorus line,” filed assault charges against Chuck Krauser, another muscular member of the troupe, as a result of a backstage battle at a local nightspot. The fight started during a news conference that Miss West, 64, had scheduled.
• • "Altercation Led to Court" • •
• • Dick West continued:  Mickey Hargitay, right, “Mr. Universe,” sports a shiner as he walks from the Municipal Court building in Washington Thursday after filing assault charges against a fellow muscle man, Chuck Krauser, center.
• • Dick West noted: Krauser knocked out Mickey Hargitay Wednesday night during an altercation in the dressing room of Mae West, left, at a Washington night club. Both men are members of the Mae West troupe.

Unlike many blogs, which draw upon reprinted content from a newspaper or a magazine and/ or summaries, links, or photos, the mainstay of this blog is its fresh material focused on the life and career of Mae West, herself an American original.
