It was on 11 April 1912 that Mae West debuted on Broadway in the role of "La Petite Daffy" in the musical farce "A Winsome Widow."
• • Set in San Francisco, the musical ran until 7 September 1912 [total performances: 172].
• • Built in 1895 by Oscar Hammerstein, The New York Theatre, located at 1514-16 Broadway (at West 44th Street), was renamed the Moulin Rouge for this production.
• • In 1915, this 2800-seat playhouse became part of the Loew's movie/vaudeville chain. It was demolished in 1935.
