Mae West: Box Office Chill

During her birthday week, MAE WEST inspired a few tribute articles. This is one you do not want to miss.
• • "Way Out West: Classic Lines from Hollywood’s Diamond Lil" • •
• • Written by Robert Cashill for Biography.com • •
• • Trailblazing Hollywood legend Mae West was born on August  17, 1893. To celebrate the outspoken leading lady, here is a look at some of her classic movie lines that left audiences wanting more.  This is part 7 of Mr. Cashill's article.
• • "The Heat's On" • •
• • Robert Cashill wrote:  The heat was off West by the time "The Heat’s On" (1943), a musical comedy, went cold at the box office. She kept busy with stage and TV appearances, made a few records, and was immortalized on the cover of The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967). “What would I be doing in a lonely hearts club band?” she asked, then gave the Fab Four her permission to use her likeness when they wrote her a fan letter.
• • Mae West's Final 2 Films • •
• • Her final two films, "Myra Breckinridge" (1970), an adaptation of Gore Vidal’s scathing Hollywood satire, and the all-star "Sextette" (1978), with her romancing future 007 Timothy Dalton and dueting “Love Will Keep Us Together” with him, were more creepy-campy than funny.
• • Mae West was frail but carefully preserved • •  . . .
• • This was Part 7. Part 8 will appear tomorrow.

• • On Tuesday, 12 September 1933 • •
• • Paramount Pictures pumped out the promotional copy for Mae West's "She Done Him Wrong" during 1933.  "Not Once But Again and Again" read one ad headline printed in Variety's issue dated for Tuesday, 12 September 1933.  "Yes, they kinda went for me," Mae tells her audience in another advertisement.
• • Overheard in Hollywood • •
• • "Homage to Mae West" is the way Elena V Designs has prepped enthusiasm for her Ready-to-Wear Spring 2013 collection.
• • In Her Own Words • •
• • Mae West said:   "I got in everyone's hair asking questions. Why this and why that?  I was in a strange land and I had to learn the tricks."
• • Quote, Unquote • •
• • An article about Tampa mentioned Mae West.
• • Josh Poltilove wrote: Eighty years ago, Chester Beecroft envisioned creating a movie studio that would turn Tampa into the Hollywood of the East.  It turned out to be wishful thinking.  But in March 1932, the veteran producer who had made films with Mae West and Marion Davies, signed a long-term lease to house the Beecroft-Florida studios in the Davis Islands Coliseum. ...
