Mae West: Wild Christmas

Why did MAE WEST release a Christmas album in 1966? Well, why not?
• • And before you wrinkle your nose, there is one question: does Madonna sound any better warbling "Santa Baby" in 1987 than the Brooklyn bombshell sounds on "Wild Christmas" in 1966?
• • In 1953, sex-kitten Eartha Kitt scored a huge hit with "Santa Baby."
• • "Santa Baby" is a Christmas song written by Joan Javits (the niece of Jacob K. Javits), Philip Springer, and Tony Springer. The playful lyrics offer a tongue-in-cheek look at a Christmas wish list expressed by an adult woman who wants extravagant gifts: a duplex, a convertible, a sable, a yacht, and decorations from Tiffany's. A follow-up to "Santa Baby" the following year was, unfortunately, a bust but the original has been covered by a large number of vocalists including RuPaul.

Santa Baby,
Just slip a sable under the tree
For me
Been an awful good girl
Santa Baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight

Santa baby, a '54 convertible, too
Light blue
I'll wait up for you, dear
Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight

Think of all the fun I've missed
Think of all the fellas that I haven't kissed
Next year I could be just as good
If you'll check off my Christmas list

Santa Baby, I want a yacht and really that's not
A lot
Been an angel all year
Santa Baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight

Santa honey, one little thing I really need
The deed
To a platinum mine
Santa Baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight

Santa cutie, and fill my stocking with a duplex
And checks
Sign your 'x' on the line
Santa cutie, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Come and trim my Christmas tree
With some decorations bought at Tif-fa-ny
I really do believe in you
Let's see if you believe in me

Santa Baby, forgot to mention one little thing
A ring
I don't mean on the phone
Santa Baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight
Hurry down the chimney tonight
Hurry... tonight
