On Thursday, 8 November 1978, when MAE WEST was 80 years old, syndicated columnist Nancy Anderson's interview with the screen legend ran. Rattled off from Mae's point-of-view and with no fact-checking, the text is rather cheeky. Let's enjoy it together. This is Part 6 of this entertaining piece.
• • "Mae West Hasn't Aged A Day Since She Was 30 Years Old" • •
• • Written by Nancy Anderson — — Copley News Service
• • From New Haven to New York • •
• • Nancy Anderson added: From Connecticut, the play went to New York where it ran for two years to full houses.
• • "Then you can guess what happened,” Miss West continues with a knowing smile. “Other producers tried to bring out plays like mine, but they didn’t know how. They went too far with plays about prostitutes and pimps and sadists and all that kind of thing, and their plays failed. “My play was a success because it had an interesting story, and it didn't have a ‘hell’ or a ‘damn' or a single dirty word in it.”
• • Miss West finds a moral in this segment of her life story from which contemporary producers might profit. Though love has been her chief stock-in-trade (on stage and on camera at least), Miss West has been married only once. “When I was 17 years old," she claims.
• • This excerpt was Part 6. This is the final segment.

• • While the motion picture "Myra Breckinridge" was not a hit, the media exposure engendered a "Mae West revival," explained The New York Post on Saturday, 4 July 1970. Guess they must have attended the premiere and watched as 10,000 fans swarmed the streets outside the theatre, screaming for Mae West (and ignoring Raquel what's-her-name).
