In July 1970, The Australian Women's Weekly discussed MAE WEST and her eagerly awaited return to the silver screen in a lengthy, unhurried article. This is Part 1.
• • She's NOT Myra Breckinridge, but Mae Gets the Top Billing • •
• • Don Prince wrote: The "seventy-sex-year-old" aims to show she has still got what it takes for a successful career. She is taking the role of Leticia Van Allen, a talent agent who uses an acting school as her "stud stable," in 20th Century-Fox's comedy "Myra Breckinridge," adapted from the much-banned American novel by Gore Vidal.
• • Mae, it is reported, thought at first she had the title role.
• • Interviewing Mae West is rather like talking with the Sphinx or warming up to the Mona Lisa. You are so filled with awe at conversing with one of the Wonders of the World, and with admiration of the ultimate in symbolic sex sorcery, that addlement may easily set in.
• • You are received at her apartment by Paul, La West's constant companion, champion, and confidant.
• • Novak gives off a Karloff vibe • •
• • This was Part 1. This article continues tomorrow with Part 2.

• • Reading: The Drag by Mae West on Monday 10 July 2017 at 7.30pm and directed by Polly Stenham.
• • Where: Lyttelton Theatre in England [part of the National Theatre]
• • The play that scandalised 1920s New York follows respected, married socialite Rolly. Son of a homophobic judge and married to the daughter of an eminent gay conversion therapist, Rolly is keen to keep his homosexual tendencies under wraps. However, when he decides to host a drag ball in his drawing room, events soon spiral out of control.
• • One of the first plays to shed light on gay counter-culture, Mae West’s rarely performed comedy was banned after ten performances.
• • Tell them you heard about "The Drag" on The Mae West Blog.
• • Overheard in Hollywood • •
• • Everything Miss Mae West wears or sponsors is immediately seized upon by Europe's smartest women," said Victor Stiebel, famous London designer. And he frankly stated that having met his style-revolutionizer should and would increase his standing in the designing world.
• • In Her Own Words • •
• • Mae West said: "He who hesitates is last."
• • Quote, Unquote • •
• • The Daily Camera mentioned Mae West.
