• • Dan Striepeke is one of the few men in Hollywood in a position to know what tactics actors use to stay young looking. Mae is careful to send personal gifts to people she likes or those who have done favors.
• • Dan Striepeke, for instance, was given an expensive white dinner jacket, and at one time, most of the Los Angeles Police Department was given a gift at Christmas time as a reward for taking care of the actress during public appearances.
• • She does not hide from her public, being one of the few celebrities who is listed in the Los Angeles telephone directory. She rarely goes out to parties and takes long walks alone at night while her limousine follows at a discreet distance. When she entertains, it is usually for only a few friends at one of her homes in California (Los Angeles or Santa Monica).

• • It was Thursday, 16 June 1932 when Mae West pulled into Pasadena, California on The Chief. She was unimpressed by the motion picture landscape she surveyed from the train station. "I'm a big girl from a big town," Mae told Los Angeles reporters, "coming to a little town."
