It was the height of the Great Depression but Hollywood movie stars were enjoying the high life and splurging on their favorite foods including MAE WEST. Let’s see this article (printed in a California paper on page 18).

• • The Vagaries of Stars So Far as Food Is Concerned • •
• • Leicester Wagner (United Press Correspondent) wrote: When old Mother Hubbard went to her cupboard, she found it bare In the best manner of Depression years. Yet it’s not so in these Hollywood pantries.
• • Mae West Likes Caviar • •

• • Several news outlets covered Mae West's bookings of the successful "Mae West Revue" in Las Vegas and other major cities.
• • One fellow wrote: Mae West gave me that famous glance and said, "Let's have the interview in the bedroom so you can tell your grandchildren how you spent an hour in Mae West's boudoir . . . ummm, taking notes." Mae stretched herself on the bed while she talked to me. Now only a real square could take notes under such circumstances.

Not posting on S32 anymore or are you just taking a well deserved break?
ReplyDelete• • Hello, J.D.
ReplyDelete• • The Hollywood harassment posts I made on Stage32, which indicated a "climate change" in Tinseltown, were done in earnest to spark a dialogue.
• • However, I was not expecting the very discouraging feedback. Seems like many males on Stage32 defended this sort of crude behavior [from Weinstein, Toback, etc.] and/or feel it's some sort of droit de seigneur when you're making money for the studio.
• • I am not referring to you, J.D.
• • This made me take a step back.
• • I'm "processing" this antagonism, you might say.
• • It was a nice surprise to hear from you, my friend.
You are missed. Your posts and those of Mike Pell make S32 worth perusing on a daily basis.
ReplyDeleteDear J.D.:
ReplyDelete• • Awfully kind of you to write to me, my Stage32 gaffer friend.
• • OK. I shall return!
