On Friday, 12 October 1973, an intriguing article was published about MAE WEST. Celebrity interviewer Norma Lee Browning [24 November 1914 — 11 June 2001], who shared Mae's passion for spirits, psychics, and the occult, had several wonderful conversations with the movie queen during her stint as a Hollywood chronicler, 1966—1976. Let's enjoy it together.
• • Come Up and See Her Sometime: The incomparable and indestructible Mae West has written a book titled ‘’Sex Drive.” • •
• • Young fans send her jewelry • •
• • Mae West added, “A lot of the kids send me jewelry, too — — diamonds. Nothing too big, of course. They're not like these rocks!" And here Mae flashed those impressive jewels she was wearing. "But I got a half-carat diamond from a l7-year-old boy and a bracelet with 10 diamonds and a diamond heart.”
• • Miss West's close friend and Hollywood producer Stanley Musgrove, is planning another important “project” for her, but neither would disclose whether it would be for television or it would be another movie. Stanley Musgrove is also president of the President of the USC “Friends,” and the man chiefly responsible for the annual memorial tributes to those who have arrived at greatness in their fields.

Half-way thru, he reminded the cinematographer, Richard Moore, "Remember, this is my best side." As if they don't have problems enough already with Raquel Welch and Miss West. . .

NYC Mae West
I believe that the half-carat diamond that Mae West received from the 17 year-year-old boy was from Robert Duran in California. He became a member of the Mae West Fan Club and befriended Craig Eadie, who lived in Canada, and was subsequently invited to stay at Mae's Santa Monica Beach House. Duran eventually became a confident of West, and looked after her fan correspondence.
ReplyDelete• • Robert Duran, age 17, bought Mae a diamond. Wow, that gift must have amazed her.
ReplyDelete• • Duran became her secretary and she was very fond of him, too.
• • Many thanks for sharing that!
