• • Hollywood [United Press] — Aug. 15th — Superior Judge Herbert V. Walker today was expected to rule on a motion which, if granted, would release a reluctant cast of about 100 movie stars from testifying about alleged escapades at the criminal libel trial of Confidential Magazine.
• • The legal maneuver followed Wednesday’s reading into the court records 14 lurid stories which introduced the names of 26 celebrities including such top stars as Frank Sinatra, Eddie Fisher. Mae West, June Allyson, Maureen O'Hara, Corinne Calvet, Jayne Mansfield and Robert Mitchum.

• • Mae West — — Playwright, screenwriter and sex symbol, Mae West was born on 17 August 1893 and was one of Hollywood's more controversial characters. She started out working in Vaudeville and on the stages of New York before taking to the bright lights of the motion picture industry. Offered a Paramount Pictures contract in 1932 when she was 38, West made her film debut in "Night After Night." She died in 1980 at the age of 87 following a stroke and a fall from bed.
