Mae West: Utah's Drag

"The Drag," a controversial stage play written by MAE WEST, is scheduled to appear onstage in the most unlikely state: Utah, thanks to a brave new theatre company.
• • Let's learn more.  The artistic directors are Kacey Spadafora and Taylor Jack Nelson.
• • An Other Theater Company, a small Utah County based company that has previously produced shows at the Great Salt Lake Fringe Festival and at the Canyon Glen Amphitheatre, is moving to a permanent black-box theater space in the Provo Towne Centre mall, where they will continue their mission of producing theatre that is "unique, fresh, empathetic, and inclusive." 
• • Typically, theatre productions in Utah County are created for a family audience. However,  An Other Theatre Company will seek to widen that scope to include works that push the envelope.

• • Opening season, beginning September 2017 and running through August 2018, will offer  plays by Christopher Durang, Henrik Ibsen, Neil LaBute,  Tony Kushner, Luigi Pirandello,  Geoffrey Nauffts, Paula Vogel along with "The Drag" by Mae West.  We're thrilled to hear it.

In an article printed in the Sunday Times on 9 June 1935, Mae discussed parting with Libby Taylor, her longtime maid.  Mae said, "When she began wanting me to wake her up in the morning, I told her she'd better stop being a maid and give her all to the public."
