Theatrical press agent Michael Sean O'Shea wrote a lovely, lively tribute to MAE WEST. It's been forgotten so let's go through the red-velvet-lined memory vault and give it a spotlight. This is Part 1.
• • Michael Sean O'Shea wrote: In the 20 years that I have pursued a star-crossed career as a theater press agent, I find in looking back that there are two ladies of the stage and screen for whom I have the utmost respect. They have delighted me as performers and pleased me as a fellow human beings, and made my small coterie of friends a truly charmed circle.

• • Mae West has always said "appernt-ment" for appointment and "erster" for oyster and I suspect she always will. I have never seen her when she wasn't wearing thick artificial eyelashes, be it during the pre-midnight hours or by day's early light. She struts, waddles, and wiggles in the most provocative manner and insists that this and that is "simply gor-juss."
• • It's pure Mae Westian • • . . .
• • This was Part 1. "The Voice of Broadway" column continues tomorrow.
• • Note: Michael Sean O'Shea was the press rep for "Diamond Lil" during its Broadway run at the Plymouth Theatre from 9/07/1949 — 1/21/1950.
• • Source: Dorothy Kilgallen's syndicated column was written, during her vacations, by other theatre people. Theatrical press agent Michael Sean O'Shea wrote this. It circulated in major newspapers during November 1957.
• • On Wednesday, 21 June 1933 • •
• • It was on Wednesday, 21 June 1933 when Russell Holmon of Paramount Pictures tried to explain to the Hays Office that the title of a song "No One Does It Like that Dallas Man" was essentially innocent and the lyrics were harmless. Hays wanted changes though and got them.
• • Overheard in Hollywood • •
• • Mae stipulates that she must be credited with writing the script but it's whispered out loud that often times she hits an impasse and is unable to work out a scene to either her own or her director's satisfaction.
• • In Her Own Words • •
• • Mae West said: "I read most of my own mail and I try to answer the important things."
• • Quote, Unquote • •
• • A Los Angeles daily mentioned Mae West.
• • The house in Van Nuys, Calif, is vacant these days, but according to Charlotte Gottenbos, who lives across the street, it has been receiving a steady stream of visitors. That's because the house once belonged to Mae West, but the visitors haven't been coming simply to pay homage to the legendary star who died last November at the age of 87....
