• • W.C. Fields made a proposal to Mae • •
• • Paul Phaneuf wrote: However, in September of 1939, W.C. Fields wrote Mae a letter in which he proposed working together. "I have a story, or the epitome of one which I think we could work to our satisfaction . . . I feel we must get together for a chat if we are to make this opus." The opus turned out to be Universal's "My Little Chickadee." Fresh from their success with Marlene Dietrich and Jimmy Stewart in "Destry Rides Again," Universal was quick to team Fields and West in another light-hearted western.

• • Mae plays Flower Belle Lee a singer and entertainer who's being chased out of the town of Little Bend for having an affair with a masked bandit. Exiled to the nearby metropolis of Greasewood City she meets up with Fields on a train during an Indian attack!

• • In the United States the bio-pic "Mae West" was shown on TV on Sunday, 2 May 1982. Actress Ann Jillian was cast in the title role. To announce this, Chicago TV Week Magazine put a beautiful photo of Mae on their cover; this issue was dated for May 2nd, too.
