Mae West: Horrible Vinegar

A very long article about MAE WEST and her career in Tinseltown appeared five years ago.  It was written by Paul Phaneuf. Let's pick this up again and enjoy it together. This is Part 70.

• • Paul Phaneuf wrote:   In one of the funniest scenes of all her films she's being romanced by crooked police chief Lloyd Nolan, but to stave him off she throws a temper tantrum saying the wine he serves her is from "1895! This horrible, horrible vinegar! Don't you know I'm delicate!"
• • It's obvious Mae had a great time in this one. In the finale, an election parade is held for Lowe, who's now the new, honest police chief thanks to some machinations by Peaches/Fifi. And highlighted in the parade is Mae West outfitted to the nines and sitting in a horse-drawn carriage playing a set of drums!
• • She has able support from veterans Lloyd Nolan, Edmund Lowe, and Charles Winninger, among others. She also insisted on getting Louie Armstrong and his band to play a number.
