In September 1934, MAE WEST sat down for a series of "Me and My Past" talks with the United Press syndicated reporter Leicester Wagner.  We will post excerpts from Chapter #7 in several installments.  This is Chapter 8, excerpt e-e.

• • Busy people don't sin • •   
• • Despite the sensational aspects of my past on the stage and on the screen, personal scandal has passed me by. To be frank about it, I've always been busy, and busy people don't sin.  It takes time.
• • My life to date — — and what I think about things at the moment — — would not be complete without offering my thanks to the millions of persons who have made it all possible — — those millions who have paid to see my stage and picture performances.
• • They can be assured that I'll never do 'em wrong.
• • I'll try to be myself at all times, publicly and privately, except on the stage or screen — — for that's where acting belongs.
• • I'll never believe the worst about anybody without complete proof, nor will I believe it's useless to struggle against so called Fate.

• • An article "Religious Leader Warns US Board on 'Risque' Radio Plays" was printed in The Los Angeles Herald on Thursday, 16 December 1937.  A never ending Niagara of condemnation from the religious righteous — — that is, the same groups that either condoned or covered up priest pedophilia for decades. Sheesh.

• •  In "The Heat's On" Mae West plays a burlesque queen who can make or ruin producers. It is a typical Mae West part.

• • A new category was created in November 2000: the Carlton TV Mae West Award for the "most outspoken women in the industry."
