In September 1934, MAE WEST sat down for a series of "Me and My Past" talks with the United Press syndicated reporter Leicester Wagner. We will post excerpts from Chapter #2 in several installments. This is Chapter 2, excerpt b-b.
• • "Me and My Past" by Mae West • •
• • As Told to Leicester Wagner United Press Staff Correspondent • •
• • This is the second excerpt from the 2nd article in a series entitled "Me and My Past," as told by Mae West to Leicester Wagner, United Press staff correspondent in Hollywood.
• • Still the Head of the Family • •
• • He's still the head of my family, but a bit surprised to land here and find that the vocalizing kid he held in his arms that night back in Brooklyn is rated (so they tell me) as the world's most famous blonde, described by many as the "Queen of Sin, Ruler of Moviedom's box-office and the most sensational gal In pictures."
• • Those are not my words. I read 'em somewhere.
• • Which all must make that dad of mine scratch his head and wonder why he thought "it" was ''just another girl."
• • What I Owe to My Mother • •
• • My mother, I believe, realized that perhaps her new baby was really different from what could ordinarily be expected of a daughter. She was right, and to her I owe the opportunities that allowed me to start acting when most kids my age were still taking their meals out of a high-chair and the present crop of Hollywood darlings were being coddled.
• • The Only Woman I Could Trust • • . . .
• • This has been excerpt b-b. Tomorrow's post will be c-c — — the continuation of Chapter #2.

• • On Tuesday, 1 November 1932 in Variety • •
• • Critiquing the debut of the motion picture "Night After Night," Variety (for once) was full of praise for Mae West, who overshadowed her younger and trimmer castmates.
• • Reviewer Bige wrote: When the Misses Skipworth and West are on view, together or separately, the laughs come often, and in the brief period assigned them as a team the comedy pace is even speedier. They do a virtual cross-fire two-act when doubling. Miss West's dialog is always unmistakably her own. It is doubtful if anyone else could write it just that way.
• • Reviewer Bige wrote: The way the Mae West — Alison Skipworth moments stand out suggests the picture could have stood more of them, but the obvious intent is to nurse Miss West along. She's tossed into this one rather abruptly and without bearing on the plot, much in the manner that Jimmy Durante has been handled by Metro. That's okay if they don't do it too often. . . .
