In 1947 MAE WEST arrived in Glasgow. Let's embrace the moment all over again.
• • Mae West in Glasgow: • •
• • Star really was a diamond girl just like in the films • •
• • The celebrity reporter for Herald Scotland Ken Smith wrote: She really does look every inch a star as Mae West soaks up the adulation of cheering fans as she strolls from the London train to the Central Hotel in Glasgow in 1947. She has arrived to oversee the production of her play "Diamond Lil" at the Alhambra Theatre. With her, looking a bit surprised at the fuss, is former world welterweight boxing champion Ted "Kid" Lewis, as well as various shady characters in hats, dodgy ties and eye-catching moustaches.
• • Ken Smith continued: What I like about stars in those days is that they can sashay along knowing that someone somewhere will collect the luggage and that it will be delivered to their room without them having to give it a second thought. . . .
