In March 1933, MAE WEST was on the mind of two men in Hollywood.
• • On Tuesday, 7 March 1933, the MPPDA President Will Hays had written a letter to Sidney R. Kent, then at 20th Century Fox.
• • Two days later, on Thursday, 9 March 1933, Kent replied to Hays. Guess what he wrote?
• • Sidney Kent to Will Hays: I have yours of March 7, attaching copy of letter you have written Winnie Sheehan and Wingate on the Coast about our meeting the other night. Would probably go further than that and I think I would go as far as anybody in the industry in any action you finally take. The time has arrived to stop talking and do something.
• • "suggestive in word — — suggested in action" • •
• • Sidney Kent to Will Hays: I went last night to see the Mae West picture, "She Done Him Wrong." In my opinion it is the worst picture I have seen. It was the real story of Diamond Lil and they got away with it. They promised that that story would not be made. I believe it is worse than "Red Headed Woman" from the standpoint of the industry — — it is far more suggestive in word and what is not said is suggested in action. I cannot understand how your people on the Coast could let this get by. There is very little that any of us can do now. I think the place to have done anything was at the source. Now that we all realize what has got to be done, I hope we will do it, irrespective of the consequences.

Mae West appeared on the front cover of Movie Mirror. Inside, Harry Lang, the Boswell of Tinseltown, concluded his three-part series of the life story of Mae West. This fan magazine was 96 pages and cost a dime.
