A playful female went to Stanford and signed up for classes as MAE WEST. Then she vanished.

• • The Stanford Daily wrote this in 1933: Mae West, voluptuous wise-cracker, came to Stanford, registered in Physics 161, and disappeared, leaving only a blue card to remember her by. Displayed on the bulletin board of the department where it was put by a dismayed physics professor, the card reveals: Name, Mae "Lil" West; address, Encina; major, dramatics.  Significant fact: Mae registered for Stanford's most revealing course, X-rays.
