On June 17th MAE WEST was involved in another lawsuit. Yikes.
• • "Mae West Says it Takes More" • •
• • New York (AP) — — Mae West says it takes more than platinum blonde hair and shapely hips to be like her. The actress appeared Friday at a pre-trial hearing in court of a 51 million dollar damage suit brought against her by another platinum-haired actress, Sarah Allen.
• • Miss Allen claims — — and Miss West denies — — that Miss West gave her permission to do Mae West impersonations, then turned around and slandered Miss Allen and ruined her career by accusing her of stealing the acts.
• • "Half the people in the world impersonate me," Miss West said. "Men, women, and even children. They put their hands on their hips or something." . . .

• • Mae West would, no doubt, be capable of delivering "curdling melodrama," predicted the publication Hollywood Citizen News in its issue dated Friday, 17 June 1932.

• • Fergus Cashin's highly suspect biography on Mae West was released in paperback by Virgin Books on Thursday, 17 June 1982. Before you try to find it, however, read the review by Kirkus, which slams it and explains why.
• • Lacking footnotes and spiked with peculiar points, Cashin's biography makes you wonder what standards a British book publisher has before they accept a manuscript.

• • Overheard in Hollywood • •
• • At first the new star Mae West was deliberately advertised as something like the worst woman in New York. She throve on scandalous rumor. Then came the American Purity Movement.
• • In Her Own Words • •
• • Mae West said: "The story of Diamond Lil makes one think of a modern idea of the Single Standard. I believe in the Single Standard for men and women."
• • Quote, Unquote • •
• • An article about British film stars mentioned Mae West.
• • Dr. H. W. Taylor scathingly criticised British film actresses. "They are all thin-lipped and about two nutmegs in weight," he said. "All give the appearance of being aged 14 to 17. I am told Mae West weighs more than a nutmeg but, of course, she is not British." ...
