MAE WEST received top billing in "Myra Breckinridge" [1970] and Ethelreda Leopold was part of the uncredited cast.
• • Ethelreda Leopold [2 July 1914 — 26 January 1998] • •
• • Born in Chicago, Illinois on Thursday, 2 July 1914, Ethelreda Leopold grew up to be a beautiful blonde who decided to model. Discovered in a lipstick ad by a Warner Brothers talent scout, the teen was put under contract. Eventually, Columbia Pictures became the studio that gave her the most work.
• • From 1934 — 1983, Ethelreda Leopold was a bit parts player who was seen on TV as well as in Hollywood motion pictures, where she often was one of the chorus girls, a dancer, cigarette or hat check gal, waitress, harem girl, hitch-hiker, hotel guest, secretary, party attendee, nursemaid, passenger, or nightclub singer.
• • Perhaps you recall seeing Ethelreda Leopold in "Myra Breckinridge" [1970] as a Bridge Party Guest. She was 56 years old at the time.
• • When her Tinseltown options were running out, TV shows became a new circuit for her energies. She retired after playing a small part (as a bidder) in the TV series "Hart to Hart" in 1983. Despite her grace, loveliness, and charm, stardom was the elusive butterfly she could not catch.
• • Ethelreda Leopold died in Los Angeles, California on 26 January 1998. She was 83.
• • On Tuesday, 2 July 1935 • •
• • It was a long, hot summer wrestling with the Hays Office over the script for "Klondike Annie." Mae West and Paramount got more bad news from the censors on Tuesday, 2 July 1935.
• • The Hays Office wrote: "We judge from your letter that during part of this picture, Miss West will be masquerading as an exponent of religion or a religious worker. ..."
• • In Her Own Words • •
• • Mae West said: "Bodyguards look after me."
• • Quote, Unquote • •
• • A syndicated gossip column written by Earl Wilson in NYC mentioned Mae West.
• • "Mae West Gives Earl Necktie for Birthday" • •
• • Earl Wilson wrote: New York, June 9 — I'm the blissful owner of a birthday tie given to me by Mae West. A friend pointed out to me to me that it's Mae Westian in design. The figures on it are fig leaves, the friend said.
• • "You know," I commented to Mae, "I wouldn't know a fig leaf if I saw one."
• • "You mean," said Mae, "you wouldn't know one if you saw it on a necktie." ...
