When MAE WEST starred in "Klondike Annie" [1936], she worked briefly with a handsome New York gentleman who had acted and danced in vaudeville and performed in the cast of early Ziegfeld shows on The Gay White Way.
• • Born in the Catskills region in Wappingers Falls, New York in the month of October — — on 7 October 1887 — — Jack Mulhall managed to get employment in an iron foundry, then worked as an amusement park barker and pitchman. After he had several Broadway credits under his belt, he joined D.W. Griffith at Biograph. From 1910 — forward, Jack Mulhall was seen in numerous silent flickers along with his hard-working co-stars Lon Chaney and Noah Beery. He starred opposite Alice Lake and Gertrude Astor, and he had scripted onscreen romances with several high-profile silent era leading ladies, too, such as Constance Talmadge in "Dulcy" [1923] and Louise Brooks in "Just Another Blonde" [1926]. "Dark Streets" [1929] was his first talkie.
• • During the 1930s Mulhall relocated to the West Coast with his family. He once served on the board of the Screen Actors Guild. Gradually, the leading man roles he once commanded gave way to bit parts. In "Klondike Annie," Jack Mulhall was seen as an officer.
• • From 1910 — 1960 his name was attached to over 400 productions from shorts to silents, from big screen favorites to TV series. Versatile and flexible, Mulhall guest-starred in the pilot episode of a TV comedy "How to Marry a Millionaire" on 7 October 1957. He was also hired for cop dramas such as the popular "77 Sunset Strip" in 1959 when he was 72. He retired the following year.
• • After a long and busy life, Jack Mulhall died of congestive heart failure in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California on 1 June 1979. He was 92 years old.

• • The Mae West Blog was started seven years ago in July 2004. You are reading the 2076th blog post. Unlike many blogs, which draw upon reprinted content from a newspaper or a magazine and/ or summaries, links, or photos, the mainstay of this blog is its fresh material focused on the life and career of Mae West, herself an American original.
