The motion picture "Sextette," starring MAE WEST, featured a few individuals who played themselves in a brief cameo.
• • West Coast journalist James Bacon had a walk-on part in "Sextette" [1978] as a reporter. Born in Buffalo, NY in the month of May — — on 12 May 1914 — — industrious news man James Bacon was awarded his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his work as a Hollywood columnist on 6 April 2007.
• • James Bacon died of congestive heart failure in Northridge, California on 18 September 2010. He was 96 years old.
• • Where They Lived — — Cary Grant • •
• • In 1931, right before he went to Tinseltown to try his luck, British native Cary Grant was renting a room at the National Vaudeville Artists Club [229 West 46th]. After the Wall Street crash, casting calls decreased, therefore, in January 1932 Cary climbed into his yellow sports car, a Packard, and headed to the West Coast with his buddy Phil Charig. Grant was hired for the motion picture "This Is the Night" [1932]. Soon after, Mae West noticed him and pulled him into her project for Paramount Pictures, where he appeared as "The Hawk" a.k.a. Captain Cummings.

• • The Mae West Blog was started seven years ago in July 2004. You are reading the 1928th blog post. Unlike many blogs, which draw upon reprinted content from a newspaper or a magazine and/ or summaries, links, or photos, the mainstay of this blog is its fresh material focused on the life and career of Mae West, herself an American original.
