During her entire career, Mae West strove to perfect her "Diamond Lil" image to the exclusion of even considering accepting any film role that would take away from "her"character. Case in point was West's refusal to star in Sunset Blvd. and in retrospect, it was probably a wise career move.
ReplyDeleteMae West concocted a image of a blonde goddess, with an hourglass figure and through careful manipulation, maintained that idealized visual of herself throughout her long life and amazing career. She clearly wanted to be remembered as one of the great all time sirens and judging by the constant references to her in popular culture, she has achieved her goal.
